Georgia preparing to host European Weightlifting Championships
The European Weightlifting Championships will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia on April 11-18.
Tbilisi will host such a large-scale tournament for the first time.

The tournament will be held at Tbilisi Sport Palace.

It is a unique chance to develop weightlifting in Georgia, Kakhi Kakhiashvili, the head of the organizing committee of the championship, said at a press conference Jan. 27.

“Following this, we will be able to host other tournaments on this sport: we will have a full set of equipment, infrastructure, which means we will be ready to hold such large-scale competitions,” he added.

Georgian Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Levan Kipiani pledged to hold the championship at a high level.

The composition of the organizing committee was presented on Jan.27. It was noted that 350 athletes from 45 countries will take part in the championship. The competition will be broadcast live on the Eurosport TV channel that reaches 54 countries.
