Iran summons Turkish ambassador over destabilization claim
Tehran summoned the Turkish ambassador on Monday amid a diplomatic feud with Turkey fueled by recent remarks made by Turkish Prime Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the Munich Security Conference on Sunday.
Speaking at the gathering, Cavusoglu accused Iran of planning to turn Syria and Iraq into Shiite states, thus undermining regional security and potentially wreaking havoc in the region. The statements enraged Iran, who said that the rhetoric by the Turkish authorities has tested the limits of its patience. However, the Turkish foreign ministry did not hold back and advised Iran to “revise its regional policies and take constructive steps” instead of lambasting its critics.
