Hollande, Merkel meet in Strasbourg

French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met in Strasbourg Friday evening for informal discussions.

The meeting, at the invitation of European Parliament President Martin Schulz, was originally scheduled for Jan. 11 but was postponed following the Paris attacks.

The two leaders talked over dinner at Zuem Ysehuet, a traditional Alsatian restaurant a short distance from the European Parliament. The meeting was held in the tradition of the `Blaesheim process,` a protocol that allows senior French and German politicians to get together informally to discuss issues affecting Europe.
