Russia celebrates 72th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad
Today people in Volgograd and all cities and towns of the Volgograd region will celebrate the 72th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet troops in the Battle of Stalingrad.

Delegations from the Crimea and other regions of Russia, as well as Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic will take part in the festivities.

"The main event of the holiday will be held in Volgograd. Culture Minister Vladimir Medinskiy is arriving to participate in the celebrations," TASS cited the press service of the regional administration.

The Battle of Stalingrad (July 17, 1942 - February 2, 1943) was a turning point in World War II. In the battle of Stalingrad Nazi Germany and its allies lost up to 1.5 million people. The losses of the Soviet army amounted to about 1.2 million people.
