15 fruits and vegetables at the supermarket you should NEVER pay extra for 'organic'
Experts have revealed the fruits and vegetables you should never bother buying 'organic' versions of.
The list includes common produce such as avocados, kiwi fruit, sweet corn, onions and asparagus.

Food expert Richard Bennett said in most cases organic fruit and vegetables are more expensive, but this does not always mean they are a superior product.

'The difference between organic and conventional produce is often blurred,' Mr Bennett told Daily Mail Australia.

'You cannot label your produce "organic" without being certified to an organic standard, but conventional growers can and do achieve certification to an environmental standard such as Freshcare Environmental or EnviroVeg.'

His comments come as the Environmental Working Group (EWG) in the United States have released their findings of the produce least likely to contain pesticide residues from conventional growing.

They have identified 15 products which they say consumers can purchase non-organically, which have the same level of pesticides as the organic versions.

These include avocados, sweet corn, pineapple, cabbage, frozen sweet peas, onions, asparagus, and mango.

Other produce experts say you should purchase non-organically are papaya, kiwi fruit, eggplant, melon, grapefruit, cantaloupe and cauliflower.

Mr Bennett said the results set a performance benchmark and give consumers more confidence that their fresh produce if safe as well as healthy and a great dietary choice.

'Many governments conduct residue surveys of a large number of produce items.

'The results might be a snap shot in time but they can identify those items that are more likely to carry residues and items that are more likely not to.'
