NATO Secretary General, Georgian defense minister discuss bilateral relations
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Georgian Defense Minister Mindia Janelidze discussed the NATO-Georgia bilateral cooperation, as well as future plans at NATO headquarters in Brussels Feb. 4.
The special attention was paid to the implementation of a substantial package obtained by Georgia at the Wales summit, the Georgian defense ministry told Trend.

Janelidze said that NATO assists Georgia in the implementation of this package, which is a priority for the Georgian side.

The sides confirmed that the package will support the implementation of the transformation of the Georgian defense system, holding of joint exercises, participation in international peacekeeping missions and strengthening of Georgia’s defense capacity.

Regional security was discussed at the meeting.

Stoltenberg reiterated NATO’s support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
He said that he does not accept the so-called agreement between Moscow and Sukhumi.

Stoltenberg said that he appreciates the ongoing reforms in the defense sector, which serve to strengthen the defense capacity and security of Georgia.

He emphasized Georgia`s contribution to the international security.

Janelidze confirmed Georgia`s participation in Afghanistan’s operation.

"We had an interesting meeting with Stoltenberg,” Janelidze said after the meeting. “We talked about cooperation and future plans as part of the NATO-Georgia cooperation. They are mainly connected with the substantial package implementation.”
