74 Jordanian athletes to compete in 11 sports at Baku Islamic Solidarity Games
A team of 74 Jordanian athletes will contest medals in 11 sports at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Baku next month, Secretary General of Jordan`s Olympic Committee (JOC) Nasser Ayman Al-Majali said during his meeting with Azerbaijani ambassador Sabir Aghabayov.
He hailed the fact that the Games will be held in Azerbaijan. “Jordan attaches great importance to the Games. And our athletes are preparing seriously for the tournament,” he said. Al-Majali noted that he will lead a delegation of 107 people to Baku. He added that Jordan has won 9 medals (3 golds, 1 silver, 5 bronzes) at the Islamic Solidarity Games so far.

Ambassador Aghabayov said that 2017 was declared a Year of Islamic Solidarity in Azerbaijan. He highlighted the Azerbaijani government`s attention to sport, the country`s hosting international sporting events and Azerbaijani athletes’ accomplishments.

Athletes from Islamic countries will be representing their nations over 10 days of competition across 20 different sports which include 23 disciplines (Athletics and Para Athletics, Aquatics – Diving, Aquatics – Swimming, Aquatics – Water Polo, Basketball 3x3, Football, Gymnastics – Artistic, Gymnastics – Rhythmic, Wushu, Table Tennis, Handball, Judo and Blind Judo, Wrestling – Greco, Wrestling – Freestyle, Shooting, Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, Zurkhaneh, Karate, Taekwondo and Weightlifting) in 16 world-class sporting venues in Baku.

Baku was awarded the Games at the General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) in Jeddah in July 2013.
