Iranian top clerics cast presidential vote
Alongside the major presidential nominees, Hassan Rouhani and Ebrahim Raisi, other top Iranian clerics cast their votes for presidential election in the country that is taking place today.
Iranians started to go to polling stations to elect their next president at 8:00 local time, Trend’s correspondent reported May 19.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Rouhani cast their votes right after the opening of the polling stations.

Ayatollahs Makarem Shirazi, Mohammad Yazdi, Mohammad Taghi Mesbah Yazdi, Jafar Sobhani, Lotfollah Safi Golpayeghani and other top clerics have cast their votes as well.

The head of Judiciary System Sadegh Larijani also casted his vote.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on the Iranian people to go on and vote as soon as possible.

He said democracy is a “blessing” and called on Iranians to rush to the polling booths and cast their votes.

This round of election includes incumbent president Hassan Rouhani fighting for a second term, rivaled by conservative Ebrahim Raisi, with a career in the judiciary and currently the superintendent of Iran’s biggest religious tourism foundation in Mashhad.

Elections of city councils and a mid-term parliamentary election are also being held simultaneously.
