Azerbaijani government, opposition reach a number of agreements
The format, regulations, topics and other issues related to the meetings with representatives of political parties were discussed during one of such meetings held on Feb. 12, the Head of the Public and Political Issues Department of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told reporters Feb.12.

He made the remarks following a meeting between the Azerbaijani government representatives and the opposition.

Hasanov said the parties’ chairmen voiced their opinions on various issues.

“Different opinions were voiced at the meeting,” he said. “The meeting participants reached an opinion that the meeting between the presidential administration’s representative and the heads of political parties was relevant and necessary for society.”

He also said the parties agreed to continue such meetings.

“From now on we will constantly meet every two months in this format, and discuss the issues of concern to the Azerbaijani public, the government, the political parties, other institutions, as well as the issues that are relevant for the society,” said Hasanov.

He said the format of the future meetings was also discussed.

“Surely we can’t make a distinction between the political parties,” said Hasanov. “These meetings are open to all parties involved in active political activity. The heads of about 16-20 political parties have participated in the meetings held so far."

Hasanov said that no matter how many parties are registered in Azerbaijan, the parties engaged in active political activity took part in these meetings, while some didn’t participate, despite the invitation.

"If they want to participate in the future, they are welcome as well," he said.

Moreover, Hasanov said that the sides exchanged views on preliminary determination of the topics for the future meetings.

The topics considered by the parties, media and state structures as the issues of public importance will be included in the list, according to the top official.

He added that this list will be sent to all political parties and in accordance with their choice, and one of these issues will be brought up for discussions at the next meeting.

The sides also agreed to bring up the differing opinions for public discussions.

“The position of Azerbaijani authorities is to ensure the participation of all institutions in the country – political parties, non-governmental organizations and media – in forming and implementing the state policy,” said the top official.

The following political party heads attended the meeting: chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu, chairman of Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan Asim Mollazade, chairman of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party Yusif Bagirzade, head of the Azadliq Party Ahmad Oruj, chairman of the National Revival Movement Party Faraj Guliyev, chairman of the Classical Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Mirmahmud Miralioglu, head of the Great Establishment Party Fazil Mustafa, chairman of the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Citizens and Development Party Ali Aliyev, head of the Party Great Azerbaijan Party Elshad Musayev, chairman of Umid Party Igbal Aghazade, chairman of the Aydinlar Party Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli, chairman of the People`s Party Panah Huseyn, chairman of the Social Democratic Party Araz Alizade and others.
