Ministry: Azerbaijan to fully switch to digital TV come 2014
Analogue broadcasting in Azerbaijan will be suspended till the end of the year, minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov told journalists on Monday.
He said that, beginning form 2014 the Azerbaijani television will be fully broadcasted in digital format.

A gradual replacement of the analogue signal with a digital one will start from the regions of Azerbaijan.

Till the end of the year population of Azerbaijan will be fully covered by the DVB-T standard signal of the digital television.

At the moment 94.3 percent of the population of Azerbaijan is covered by the signal of the digital TV.
In total, there are 46 DVB-T standard digital TV signal transmitters functioning on Azerbaijani territory.

A social package consisting of 12 television channels is available for the population of Azerbaijan.

The broadcasting of digital content will be carried out in the MPEG-4 format.

For switching to the digital broadcasting, it is necessary for subscribers to purchase a decoder.
