Samad Seyidov: US should increase efforts toward Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement
Azerbaijani parliamentary committee on international and interparliamentary relations on Saturday is holding discussions on the relations between Azerbaijan and the United States.

The discussions’ topics are “Energy and security cooperation: partnership based on mutual interests”, “the US’s involvement in settlement process of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: opportunities and expectations”, and “Ensuring human rights in the US: legal requirements and real situation”.

Aside from the MPs, the discussions are attended by political analysts and NGO representatives.

Seyidov said though the relations between Azerbaijan and the US were built in 1992, the relations entered into a new period after Heydar Aliyev came to power.

“The Contract of the Century” signed in 1994 was the beginning of a new strategic cooperation,” he added.

Seyidov said Azerbaijan has expectations from the US, noting that the US should increase efforts toward the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“After the terrorist attacks in 2001 in the US, the two countries’ relations reached a new level - Azerbaijan and the US directed joint efforts to fight against terrorism,” he added.

The discussions continue.
