Azerbaijani FM expresses his condolences to Egyptian counterpart
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has sent a letter of condolences to Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in connection with the brutal murder of 21 Egyptian citizens by terrorists, the press service of the Azerbaijani foreign ministry said Feb.17.
In the letter, Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan, as a country suffering from terrorism, shares grief of the people of Egypt and once again strongly condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism.

On Feb.15 that a group of armed persons kidnapped the workers of a fishing syndicate in Egypt’s Kafr el-Sheikh city.

The company`s management urged the country’s authorities to start searching for the kidnapped. The same day a video footage showing the kidnapped fishermen were killed by the militants of the ‘Islamic State’ terrorist group was released.

The ‘Islamic State’ (IS, formerly ISIL or ISIS) penetrated Syria’s territory in 2013. The organization said at the time it refuses to take the oath of Al-Qaeda and declared ‘a holy war’ against all groups and government forces of Syria.

Strengthening of the IS in Syria allowed it to return to Iraq, deploying military actions against government forces there.

In late June of 2014, the IS announced about the creation of the ‘Islamic Caliphate’ on the territories under its control in Iraq and Syria. In turn, Iraqi authorities asked the international community for help in fighting the IS.
