Peru Recalls Ambassador to Chile Amid Spy Scandal
Lima temporarily recalled its envoy in Santiago after three Peruvian naval officers were detained on charges of selling state secrets to a foreign agent.
Peru on Friday recalled its ambassador to Chile “for consultations” after three Peruvian naval officers were arrested earlier this week for handing over secret information to a foreign agent.
If convicted, they face up to 25 years behind bars.

In an official note of protest handed to the Chilean ambassador in Lima the Peruvian government urged the Santiago authorities to “thoroughly investigate the incident and punish the organizers of espionage activities against the neighboring state,” the Peru21 newspaper reports.
