Mexican gastronomy in the 2nd International Festival of Dolma in Azerbaijan
The Embassy of Mexico in Azerbaijan will participate in the 2nd International Festival of Dolma, which will be inaugurated on July 15 in Xachmaz city, AzVision.az reports.
The purpose of attending the event is to promote bilateral cultural ties, to promote Mexican gastronomy - declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO - and to know and find similarities between national traditions.

It will be made, for the first time in Azerbaijan, an official presentation of the Mexican dish "Tamal". The tamales have their origin in the pre-Hispanic time, since they were used like offering in religious rituals. At present, they occupy an important place in the culture and gastronomy of Mexico.

There are more than 500 varieties of this dish. Origin of the word "tamal" comes from the Nahuatl word "tamally" and means "wrapped." They can be wrapped in dry corn cob leaf, banana leaf or others.

How is tamale prepared? - the corn dough is mixed or stuffed with some stew, which can be salty or sweet. It is rolled up in banana leaves, corn or other, and then steamed or baked.
