An Egyptian court sentenced Alaa Abdel Fattah, a prominent activist during the 2011 anti-government protests to five years on charges of violating a new law on demonstrations.

A retrial of two Al Jazeera English journalists that was due to take place on Monday was postponed until March 8, following a brief hearing.
