UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid beat Manchester United 2-1 to retain title
Real Madrid haven’t had the greatest of pre-seasons while Manchester United have injury concerns to deal with. Both teams have their positives and negatives as they enter the UEFA Super Cup to be played for the first time in Macedonia.
A notable absentee for Real Madrid will be Cristiano Ronaldo who hasn’t trained enough but he could be thrown on later if required. For United, there is no Eric Bailly, Phil Jones (both suspended), Marcos Rojo (knee), Luke Shaw (foot), Ashley Young (hamstring). FULL TIME! Real Madrid beat Manchester United 2-1 to win second Super Cup in a row!

96′ Ronaldo earns a free kick after being brought down by Valencia. But the effort goes flying over

91′ Fellaini gets his heavily bandaged head to the ball to test Navas. On the other end, Lucas Vazquez tip toes and trickles past two Manchester United defenders to square the ball for Asensio who gets a first time right foot shot. De Gea is equal to the brilliance to deny the Real Madrid midfielder

90′ Seven minutes added on

86′ Ronaldo’s first real involvement of the game is earning Real Madrid a free kick. Goes down in a heap at the half way line. Affords a little smile and says “falta (foul)”

84′ Carvajal is booked for bringing down Mkhitaryan. Seems unfair on second looking with Dani getting little on it. He’s booked due to it. But nothing from the resultant free kick.

81′ REAL MADRID CHANGE: One man both teams wanted to see – in one way or the other. Ronaldo comes on to play the final ten minutes

81′ CHANCE! Quick passing by Manchester United in the Real Madrid third and the ball comes to Rashford who has the time and space to score but his left footed shot is more of a scruff and Navas gets a touch to it even as the ball was going wide from underneath him. On the counter, Benzema runs near length of the pitch and tries to trick Lindelof but the shot is blocked to go for a corner.

75′ We have our cooling break earlier than the 75th minute. Real Madrid make a double change in the meanwhile. Lucas Vazquez and Asensio come on to replace Isco and Bale. Sergio Ramos and Fellaini with a clash of heads and both look in bad shape. The Belgian is bleeding from the top of the head and needs a new shirt. Ramos looks okay. He’s up and moving around easily

62′ GOAL!! Romelu Lukaku opens his Manchester United account and reduces the deficit. A lethal left footed shot by Nemanja Matic to test Navas and the ball is spilled with Lukaku on hand to tap the ball home. He wasn’t going to miss such a chance twice, was he? And he joins an illustrious list
