Azerbaijani Parliament starts discussing draft law on science
Azerbaijani Parliament has today discussed long-awaited draft law "On science".
The Chairman of the parliamentary committee on science and education Shamsaddin Hajiyev made a speech on this draft law.

He said that the draft law “On science” was developed basing on the international experience. Legal assessment of complex systems of science and improvement of the quality of scientific productivity were taken as key factors in the draft law: “The aging trend is observed in the Azerbaijani science. Old people are more than young people in our science.”

Hajiyev mentioned that the draft law reflects provisions regarding the improvement of social welfare of teachers, scientists and scholars. The new draft law with 8 chapters and 47 articles envisages all aspects regarding this field. According to the draft law, Azerbaijani scholars will be able to independently sell the results of their research and their products abroad. Moreover, the draft law offers preferential loans and areas of lands for young Azerbaijani scientists and research workers to be provided with housing.

Upon discussions, the draft law was conceptually passed in the first reading.
