Azerbaijan’s firefighters extinguish fire in area of 4ha in Georgia
Forces of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations are actively involved in operations to put out the ongoing forest fires in Georgia, Togrul Mehdiyev, a ministry official who is currently in the disaster zone.
Azerbaijan’s firefighters are entrusted to take part in fire-fighting operations in the most difficult terrain, according to Mehdiyev.

“Today we have managed to extinguish the fire in the area of about 4 hectares. The forces of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations are in a state of readiness to accomplish new tasks,” he added.

Forest fires broke out on Georgian territory on August 20. A special headquarters has been set up that unites authorities from all relevant state agencies to draw up strategies for handling the fire. Windy weather and high temperature make it difficult for firefighters to handle tblaze.

Under the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Ministry of Emergency Situations sent 22 units, including one helicopter and 131 personnel to Georgia to assist in extinguishing the forest fires. Moreover, two helicopters and a 6-member crew of Azerbaijan’s State Border Service are involved in fire-fighting efforts in the disaster zone.
