Azerbaijani, Iranian border services cooperation to be expanded
A number of meetings between the heads of the State Border Services of Azerbaijan and Iran are planned to be held in 2015, the deputy chief of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan Major General Farhad Taghizadeh told on Feb.25 in Tehran.
Commenting on the results of the meeting of heads of border services of Azerbaijan and Iran,

he said that during the meeting the sides discussed the situation on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border, the progress achieved as a result of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijani and Iranian border services, work, which is scheduled to be carried out in the future, and studied the issues to be addressed.

“Usually a protocol, which refers to the results of the negotiations, is signed at such meetings,” said Taghizadeh. “The parties put forward their proposals for bilateral cooperation during the meeting. These proposals are related to the expansion of bilateral cooperation and increase of its effectiveness. We will work on them.”

He said that the border services of Azerbaijan and Iran plan to further expand bilateral cooperation in new ways.

It was earlier reported that the border guards of Azerbaijan and Iran would jointly fight against smuggling and illegal border crossing.

A number of memoranda of understanding were singed in Tehran at the eighth meeting between the Iranian border guards and the Azerbaijani State Border Service on Feb. 24.
