Iran closes aerial zone to Iraq's Kurdish Autonomous Region
Iran closed its aerial zone to Iraq’s Kurdish Autonomous Region, the state-run IRINN TV reported Sept. 24.
Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has closed Iran’s airspace and air border to Iraqi Kurdish region at the request of Iraq’s government, Keyvan Khosravi, spokesman of the SNSC, said.

Based on the decision, all flights to Sulaymaniyah and Erbil airports as well as transit flights from Iraqi Kurdistan through Iran’s air zone is halted, Khosravi added.

The development comes amid reports on a possible referendum in Northern Iraq scheduled for Sept. 25.
