Trilateral meeting of presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran&Russia held in Tehran - PHOTOS, UPDATED
Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan want to deepen high-level cooperation on global energy market platforms and expand cooperation in the oil and gas sector, a joint statement signed by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Tehran on Wednesday said.
"The parties point out the key role of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the sustained functioning of regional and global energy markets, support the expansion of cooperation in the oil and gas as well as petrochemical sectors, including in the area of exploration and development of oil and gas fields, transport and swap deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products, as well as deepening cooperation on the international platforms. The parties, reaffirming the importance of strengthening links between representatives of commercial structures, underscore the need to create conditions for the activity of the chambers of commerce and industry and promotion of the interests of the business community," the statement says.

In addition, the parties also supported the projects on connecting the electric grids of the three states as well as agreements on electric power trade.

"The sides recognize that the unresolved conflicts in the region are a significant obstacle to regional cooperation and, in this regard, underscore the importance of their early peaceful settlement through negotiations on the basis of the principles and norms of international law, and the decisions and documents adopted in accordance with them," reads the statement.

Furthermore, the sides expressed determination to oppose terrorism, extremism and transnational organized crime.

"The parties are determined to fully counteract terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, illegal circulation of arms, narcotic drugs and their precursors, human trafficking and crimes in the field of information and communication technologies. The sides call on the world community to join forces to effectively combat these challenges and threats to international stability and security under the central coordinating role of the United Nations, "the statement reads.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a trilateral meeting in Tehran.

A joint declaration was adopted following the talks, and the presidents made a statement to the press.
