Vice President of Italian Senate hails Azerbaijan`s contribution to religious and intercultural dialogue
Vice President of the Italian Senate Linda Lanzillotta has hailed Azerbaijan`s contribution to religious and intercultural dialogue, as well as the moderate policy pursued by the country as a secular state as she met with Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku.
The sides praised development of the interparliamentary relations, and highlighted the importance of the reciprocal visits. They expressed confidence that this visit would contribute to expansion of the interparliamentary relations.

They exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-Italy relations, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The sides mentioned that the current development level of the relations in political, economic, energy, culture, tourism and education fields is in the interests of the people of the two countries. Hailing the high-level political and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Italy, they emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to develop the bilateral cooperation.

The parties also noted that Italy is an important trading partner of Azerbaijan in the European Union. While touching upon the strategic importance of the TAP project, which is an important component of the Southern Gas Corridor, the sides expressed hope that ongoing construction work of TAP project will be completed on schedule. Linda Lanzillotta reiterated that the TAP project has an important role in the energy security of Italy and Europe.

Minister Mammadyarov informed the Vice President of the Italian Senate that Baku is one of the candidate cities for EXPO 2025 and noted that capital Baku and Azerbaijan is a regular host of different prominent international events during the last years.

The sides also discussed prospects of the inter-parliamentary ties and other issues of mutual interest.
