Mexican media on illegal visit of their MPs to occupied Azerbaijani lands
Illegal visit of Mexican MPs to the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia harms Mexican-Azerbaijani relations, said El Excelsior, an influential Mexican newspaper.
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico believes that three MPs from the leftist National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) and the Party of the Democratic Revolution, who illegally visited the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, exceeded their powers, the newspaper said.

The MPs visited the Nagorno-Karabakh region without the permission of the Azerbaijani government.

“On October 21-28, the MPs were supposed to be in Armenia as part of visit of the Armenia-Mexico friendship group. However, while being there, they visited the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Azerbaijan’s territory occupied by Armenia, and this provoked outrage of the Azerbaijani side,” El Excelsior noted.

The newspaper wrote that the Charge d'Affaires of Azerbaijan in Mexico Mammad Talibov sent an official letter to President of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico Jorge Carlos Ramirez Marin October 25 requesting to investigate the visit.

Also, the influential Mexican newspaper Milenio wrote that the left-wing MPs contributed to a diplomatic conflict with Azerbaijan.

“The visit took place on the initiative of Co-Chairman of the Armenia-Mexico Friendship Group from the Armenian Parliament Karen Avagyan,” the newspaper said. “The appeals of pro-Armenian Mexican MPs and unauthorized visits to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan led to the MPs being declared persona non grata. A letter submitted by the Azerbaijani side, reads: 'This provocative and unacceptable move by Mexican MPs contradicts the spirit of friendly and cooperation relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan, and is aimed, undoubtedly, at damaging these relations'.”

Another influential Mexican newspaper El Universal writes that the Mexican MPs have caused the protest of Azerbaijan.

“All three federal MPs of Mexico have been illegally visiting the Armenian-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region without the permission of the Azerbaijani government since 1992,” wrote the newspaper. “Therefore, Mammad Talibov, the charge d’affaires of Azerbaijan in Mexico, expressed serious concerns over the visits to the occupied Azerbaijani territories not taking into account Azerbaijani legislation and warnings about visits to the region, posted on the official website of the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs.”

In addition to these newspapers, the issue was covered by a number of other media outlets, including a radio channel: https://azvision.az/redirect.php?url=http://www.20minutos.com.mx/noticia/298598/0/preocupa-a-azerbaiyan-visita-ilegal-de-diputados-de-morena-y-prd/;https://azvision.az/redirect.php?url=http://www.ejecentral.com.mx/diputados-de-prd-y-morena-causan-conflicto-diplomatico-con-azerbaiyan/

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian Armed Forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its Armed Forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
