Azerbaijani soldier’s body repatriated - UPDATED
The body of an Azerbaijani soldier, Bahruz Jalilbayli, who left the place of service at his own will after committing a military crime, was handed over to the Azerbaijani side on November 28.
The Azerbaijani soldier’s body was repatriated thanks to the efforts made by Azerbaijan’s State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons and the Ministry of Defense through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Representatives of the ICRC and relevant state bodies of Azerbaijan participated in the handover process.

Soldier Jalilbayli was drafted from Sadarak district on January 5 this year.

The body of an Azerbaijani soldier was taken by the Armenian side, Eldar Samadov, deputy head of the working group of Azerbaijan’s State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, said on Tuesday, AzVision.az reports.

The body of the missing Azerbaijani soldier, Bahruz Jalilbayli, was found on the contact line at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border in the direction of the Ordubad District of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, near the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces on November 23.

Samadov noted, relevant international organizations have been appealed to about the search for and the fate of the Azerbaijani soldier who went missing on September 27.

“On November 23, the Armenian side reported having found the soldier’s dead body in that area. International organizations have been re-appealed for identification of the body. Negotiations are underway to return soldier's body. We continue to work with relevant organizations. Further information will be provided,” he added.
