Despite quitting EITI, Azerbaijan remained loyal to its principles - SOFAZ
Today, a presentation of final version of the EITI report for 2016 developed by Moore Stephens Azerbaijan was held at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) with the participation of civil society, representatives of international organizations, local and foreign companies and media.
SOFAZ Executive Director Shahmar Movsumov informed about the membership to EITI. He says that Azerbaijan was one of the active members of the EITI.

‘Azerbaijan has been member of EITI since 2003. During this period, we publicized all information on the production, published more than 20 reports within the framework of EITI. However, double standards have been applied against Azerbaijan. We have seen EITI exhibit double standards against Azerbaijan since 2013. On April 5, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on additional measures on increase of transparency and accountability in the extraction industry. According to the decree, a Extractive Industries Transparency Commission (EITC) was established in Azerbaijan. After quitting EITI, we prepared more comprehensive report. We have also involved an independent auditor in this process. This report was enriched with some new information: SOCAR’s social expenditures, detailed information about PSA. In a word, despite quitting EITI, Azerbaijan remained loyal to its principles’, he said.
