Turkey, Azerbaijan strengthening political, economic ties - presidential adviser
Turkey and Azerbaijan are increasingly strengthening political and economic ties, said Yalcin Topcu, chief adviser to the Turkish president, the country’s media reported Dec. 8.
Topcu noted that the two fraternal countries are also simultaneously developing cultural and social ties.

“Such an important project as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway implemented by Azerbaijan jointly with Turkey contributes to the development of the region,” Topcu added.

An official opening of the BTK railway was held in Baku Oct. 30. The BTK railway was constructed on the basis a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.

The railway’s peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At an initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
