Armenia has been holding under occupation 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts for more than 20 years, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The president made the remarks at the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the issue of Jerusalem in Istanbul on Dec. 13, AzVision.az reports.
President Aliyev expressed gratitude to the OIC member states and Muslim communities around the world for their fair support to Azerbaijan on resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“Nagorno-Karabakh is an ancient and historical land of Azerbaijan. As a result of Armenia's aggression, more than one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons,” said the president. “The occupied territories were entirely subjected to ethnic cleansing and plundering. Armenia destroyed all cultural monuments, including mosques and Islamic monuments on the occupied Azerbaijani territories.”
He went on to say that Armenia nevertheless wants to establish friendly relations with different Muslim countries.
"This is the greatest hypocrisy and Muslims worldwide should know that Armenia, which destroyed our holy mosques, can not be a friend of Muslim countries,” stressed President Aliyev.
