Azerbaijan votes voted in favour of resolution on status of Jerusalem -PHOTO
The UN General Assembly has decisively backed a resolution effectively calling on the US to withdraw its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The non-binding resolution was approved by 128 states, with 35 abstaining and nine others voting against.

It came after US President Donald Trump threatened to cut financial aid to those who backed the resolution.

The nine country such as the US, Israel, Guatemala, Honduras, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Togo voted against the resolution.

Azerbaijan is one of the countries voted in favour of the resolution in support of the long-standing international consensus that the status of Jerusalem – which is claimed by both Israel and the Palestinians as a capital – can only be settled as an agreed final issue in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, AzVision.az reports.

Note, on Wednesday, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stated at a joint press conference with his Iranian and Turkish counterparts in Baku that Azerbaijan will vote in the UN for a resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli issue.
