Rescue team searching for 3 mountain climbers in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) has released information on three climbers who went missing on Dec. 23.
Rescue team of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations is searching for three members of the Air and Extreme Sports Club “Gilavar”, who on Dec. 23 left the village of Khinalig of the Guba district in the direction of Mount Tufandag, the ministry said in a message Dec. 27. On the evening of Dec. 26, the ministry’s Crisis Management Center received information that communication with the mountain climbers was lost.

One of the three members of the Gilavar Air & Extreme Sports Club, who went missing in Azerbaijan’s Guba district on Dec. 23, is an employee of the Interior Ministry’s press service, Azvision.az reports citing APA.

Police lieutenant Babur Huseynov is said to have been engaged in mountaineering before being hired to the Interior Ministry. On weekends, Huseynov, together with two fellow mountaineers, went to Guba district. The climbers went missing in the mountains, where there were unfavorable weather conditions.

Forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Border Service, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and other relevant state agencies are continuing the search for the missing climbers.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations earlier reported that members of the Gilavar Air & Extreme Sports Club, Babur Huseynov, Namin Bunyatzade, Farida Jabrayilzade, who set out from the village of Khinalig to Tufandag on Dec. 23 did not return and connection with them was interrupted. The information was transferred to relevant agencies. An air squad of the MES initiated a search operation.
