“Azerbaijan has joined the European Convention for the Protection of Animals accepted in Strasbourg in 1987, and the Law of Azerbaijan Republic on the Protection of Animals was passed in 2007. At the same time, regulations for keeping dogs, cats and other pets in residential settlements of Azerbaijan Republic were approved by the decision No 38 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated of 9 March 2011.
In order to fight the rabies decease, the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Republic has procured vaccine at the amount of 50 thousand doses for oral treatment of animals. For this purpose, the Vet Service staff has been deployed to the regions of Azerbaijan and the forest zones, as well as the cities of Baku and Sumgayit, and active groups have been created. The vaccination has been made to more than 250 thousand dogs registered with the rabies decease in 2014.
At the same time, we note that prophylactic measures to prevent diseases of animals including dogs are carried with strict control by the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture in accordance with the standards of the International Epizootic Bureau, and biodiversity and agricultural environment are preserved in a thorough and sustainable manner. Protection of homeless animals is carried in accordance with the regulations specified by the legislation and will continue in future under direct supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture,” says the statement.
