According to Hajiyev, Azerbaijan has focused its policy on protecting national interests, eliminating the Armenian occupation and aggression, ensuring its territorial integrity and sovereignty, and promoting the international authority of Azerbaijan and peace.
“The Armenian-occupation of our lands remains the most serious threat to the country’s security. Armenia continues the policy of occupation and maintaining the status-quo. Thus, the occupation has not been put an end. Armenia, committing political and military provocation during the year, has pursued the policy aimed at violating the negotiation process, putting forward conditions for the negotiations and maintaining the status-quo and it has hindered the peaceful solution of the conflict,” he said.
The spokesperson added Azerbaijan continued its independent, multidirectional and balanced foreign policy in 2017 as well.
Hajiyev stressed the international community has rejected the referendum held by Armenians illegally in the occupied Azerbaijani territories and demonstrated respect to Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. “During the year, Armenia again resorted to military provocations and caused to the escalation of the tension on the contact line of the troops. The world community has resolutely condemned the deliberate targeting of Azerbaijani civilians by Armenia and murder of several Azerbaijani civilians. However, Armenia has continued its policy of occupation and resorted to other military adventure due to impunity,” said the foreign ministry spokesperson.
