Nabucco project important both for Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, expert says
The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Bulgaria gave a good impetus to the development of cooperation between the two countries, especially, in gas supply and the issue of resumption of Nabucco project
He said the Nabucco project is important both for Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.

“It is necessary to resume the implementation of the project and Bulgarian government should make every effort for this,” the expert added.

Nabucco West project was the rival of the Trans-Adriatic pipeline (TAP) project in competing for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to European markets.

Although the decision of the consortium for development of the Shah Deniz field was not in favor of this project, its planned route still remains relevant.

The European Union is still interested in the project for construction of a gas pipeline to Central and Eastern Europe.

The supply route to Southeastern Europe and Austria has been included in the list of projects of common interest (PCI) of the European Commission.

The concept of the Nabucco West project envisaged the construction of 1,300-kilometer pipeline (412 kilometers running through Bulgaria, 469 kilometers – Romania, 384 kilometers – Hungary, 47 kilometers – Austria) from Turkish-Bulgarian border to Austria’s Baumgarten.
