India supports talks between Azerbaijan, Armenia mediated by OSCE MG
India supports the talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group, Indian Ambassador Sanjay Rana told Trend, AzVision.az reports.
Rana, talking about the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said that such conflicts are best resolved through peaceful negotiations.

"We have been supportive of the talks between the two sides mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group. India has always supported the principles of territorial integrity and national sovereignty. We hope that the conflict will be resolved and peace would prevail in the region," the ambassador said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
