US State Dept. official discusses issue of Radio Free Europe with Azerbaijani officials
Deputy Assistant Secretary in the US State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Bridget Brink, who is on a visit to Baku, said on Wednesday she had discussed with Azerbaijani officials the closure of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Baku office.

“We discussed the closure of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Baku office with Azerbaijani officials. I will report in this regard upon my return to the US,” she said.

Brink refused to answer the question of what influence the closure of Radio Free Europe’s Baku office may have on Azerbaijani media.

“I’m not the one who is supposed to speak about what influence the closure of the Azadliq radio may have on Azerbaijani media. However, the existence of proper positions in the media creates conditions for reliable news to be obtained. This is an important issue,” the State Department official added.
