Letter sent to White House tested for cyanide
An envelope sent to the White House is undergoing testing to confirm if a substance found on it is cyanide, the U.S. Secret Service confirmed in an e-mail Tuesday night.
The envelope arrived at the White House mail screening facility on Monday and initial tests for biological substances came up negative, according to the e-mail from Robert Hoback, Secret Service spokesman. Subsequent tests on Tuesday, however, came up "presumptive positive" for cyanide, Hoback wrote.

Further tests are being conducted on the envelope at another facility for final confirmation, according to Hoback.

No one at the White House screening facility was hurt by exposure to the envelope, according to CNN.

Hoback said the Secret Service would have no further comment because the incident is the subject of an ongoing investigation.

The White House did not immediately respond to an e-mail for comment.

Cyanide is a deadly chemical compound that makes the body unable to use oxygen.
