First freight train sent off from Azerbaijan to Iran
The first freight train was sent off from Azerbaijan’s Astara city to Iran’s Astara city Feb. 8, the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC said in a message.

According to the message, the train consists of six cars loaded with Russian timber and medium-density fibreboard.


The North-South Transport Corridor is designed to connect Northern Europe with Southeast Asia. It will serve as a link connecting the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.

At the initial stage, 5 million tons of cargo are planned to be transported through the corridor per year and over 10 million tons of cargo in future.
