Symbol of Azerbaijani manat added to Unicode
Denomination of the national currency at a ratio of 5000:1 was conducted in Azerbaijan in 2006.

Along with the new banknotes Austrian graphic artist and designer Robert Kalina has developed a new symbol for the Azerbaijani manat.

Many attempts were made in the period from 2008 to 2011 to add the symbol of a manat to the table of currency symbols, but, unfortunately, all applications in this regard were rejected due to the fact that the symbol was almost unused.

However, the year 2012 was a landmark in the history of the symbol of a manat.

Thanks to the design studios and advertising agencies like JIS, the symbol has become widely used in advertising, on scratch cards and price tags.

At a Unicode meeting held on 10 to 14 June 2013, the symbol of a manat was adopted to encode a U +20 BC.
