New car plant to be built in Azerbaijan

A new car plant will be built in Hajigabul industrial district of Azerbaijan, Executive Director of Azerbaijan Investment Company Rovshan Najaf said at a press conference held on March 5.

He said that the negotiations are underway with foreign investors in this regard.

The company plans to arrange production of both passenger cars and trucks. The information on what vehicle models and brands will be manufactured, was not provided.

Najaf also reminded that an automobile plant will be commissioned in the Neftchala industrial district in 2018.

The opening of the first joint Azerbaijani-Iranian automobile plant, which is being built in the Neftchala industrial zone, is planned by late this March. Its founders are Iran's Khodro and Azeurocar.

The joint Azerbaijani-Iranian plant is expected to manufacture Dena, Rana, Soren and Samand cars, as well as a number of Peugeot models. The project’s cost is estimated at 24 million manats and the plant’s annual capacity will be about 10,000 cars. The cars are planned to be exported to Ukraine, Russia and Central Asian countries in the future.
