ASA organizes the most successful Nowruz celebration in California
ASA has organized the most successful Nowruz celebration in California.
Azerbaijani Society of America (ASA) Western Region organized the first ever major celebration of Nowruz - Vernal Equinox Spring Holiday - in Southern California.

Among the nearly 250 mostly Azerbaijani-American guests were also the House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, California Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA), Mayor of Irvine, CA - Steven Choi, Mayor of Fountain Valley, CA - Steve Nagel, all of whom addressed the audience. Speaking to the community, Congressman Royce highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan and recalled his recent visit to the country.

District representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher presented greeting certificates to the Azerbaijani community on the occasion of Nowruz. Greeting proclamations were also issued by the offices of Congresswoman Mimi Walters, California State Senator Bob Huff, and the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Todd Spitzer and Lisa Bartlett.

Among the speakers addressing the audience were also the Consul General of Azerbaijan, Nasimi Aghayev, and ASA President, Tomris Azeri; the official part of the event was led by ASA West Board Directors, Kimiya Mammadova and Dr. Javid Huseynov.

After the official section and a banquet dinner, the event proceeded with the music program including singer Novruz Mamedov and arranger Fuad Javadov, DJ Aydin, and a special guest performance by Maestro Rahman Asadollahi.

ASA recognized Kimiya Mammadova, Narmina Ismailova, Nancy Isgandarova, Dr. Ismail Rustamov, Dr. Javid Huseynov, and Sarvat Maharramli for their organizational efforts. Organizers also thank Pari Howard, Tural Badirkhanli, Cafe 21, Gelateria Uli, Samir Lutvaliyev, Elchin Mirzayev, Ismail Rustamov, Javid Huseynov, Emil Sultanov, Ray Sandugi and AZPROMO for their sponsorship of the Nowruz Gala in California.

ASA is the oldest grassroots organization representing Azerbaijani Americans since 1957.
