South-West transport corridor project has great future, says Azerbaijani FM

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will pay an official visit to Azerbaijan in late March, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov announced on March 16.

“The Iranian president has already initialed a document on the allocation of a loan for the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, which is expected to be completed in the next three years,” Mammadyarov said.

According to the minister, India is interested in the South-West transport corridor project.

"Transportation of goods from Mumbai, India, to Europe takes more than 60 days. Vietnam is showing interest in the project. When I was there last year, they said that their export potential was $ 204 billion, of which $ 44 billion falls on the share of goods exported to Europe,” he stressed.

Mammadyarov said he believes the South-West transport corridor project has a great future.

“Such an opportunity emerged after the opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which will change the world’s transport map," he added.
