Russian military base in Armenia provided with new territory

Russian military base in Gyumri will be provided with a new section on the Lalayan street, which is used by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as an adjacent plot 173/3 - for the construction of a cultural center.

Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, introducing the draft decision, said that thus the legal basis for the use of actually maintained territories and the implementation of investing in the prescribed manner is created.

Russian 102nd Military Base, which is on combat duty in the framework of joint air defense system of the CIS, is deployed in the city of Gyumri in northern Armenia. In August 2010, Russia and Armenia extended the term of the contract to host the military base until 2044. The Protocol also provides for the expansion of its geographic and strategic responsibility. The base is equipped with S-300 and MiG-29.
