Russia Hosts 18th Deaflympics for First Time
For the first time in the history of the event, the Deaflympics will be held in Russia, when the games open on March 28.
The 18th Winter Deaflympics will take place in the Russian cities of Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk between March 28 and April 5, 2015 and will feature 31 sets of medals in five sports.

The organizing committee of the Russian Deaflympics has received applications from 450 athletes representing 27 countries. The Russian national team will include 78 athletes from 16 regions.

Russian athletes have taken part in sports movements for the deaf and hearing-impaired since 1957 and held leading positions in unofficial team rankings.

The R-Sport agency, part of the Rossiya Segodnya media group, will be the General Information Partner for the Organizing Committee of the event.

"For our news desk, it is very important to cover not only high-performance sports, but also those sports which do not have a large audience, but are nevertheless very important. That`s why we support the Paralympic, Deaflympic games and others," R-Sport Desk Head Vasily Konov said.

He said that it was R-Sport’s job to promote the full range of sports that people around the world participate in.

"It is one of our jobs, to promote all kinds of sport, to make people aware and help them understand that anyone, in any situation can move forward, take up sports and perform at the highest level," Konov added.
