Elmira Suleymanova issues statement on 31 March - Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis
Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova has issued a statement on the occasion of March 31 – the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.

The Ombudsman`s Office told that the statement is addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, United Nations Security Council, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, European Commission, Council of Europe, OSCE, International Ombudsman Institute, European Ombudsman Institute, foreign embassies in Azerbaijan and organizations of the Azerbaijani Diaspora.

The statement says that facts of mass manslaughter committed by Armenians in 1918 in Guba have been recently surfaced.

“Discovered numerous human bones are visual evidence of the Armenian vandalism. The Genocide Memorial Complex has been formed in that area in honor of the genocide victims.

President Heydar Aliyev issued a decree on 26 March 1998 to commemorate March 31 as Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis. March 31 - Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis is marked in our country every year.

We reiterate that this genocide has not been given legal assessment at the international level. Appealing to the international community and influential international organizations, we express our assurance that necessary assistance will be provided to put an end to the

Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and massive human rights violations, and to solve the long-lasting conflict by peaceful means.

We call on the international organizations to support our fair position without double standards. We believe that justice will prevail soon, the violent crime against humanity will be given international legal assessment as an act of genocide, the perpetrators will be punished, authoritative international organizations will impose sanctions on Armenia, Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and the rights of hundreds of thousands of refugees and internally displaced persons will be restored, and the prisoners of war and hostages will be released,” the statement said.
