Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court meets with OSCE/ODIHR observation mission head

Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev has met with head of the election observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Corien Jonker.

Abdullayev highlighted the activity and history of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan, and spoke about the judicial and legal reforms successfully carried out in the country over the past years. He said that the Constitutional Court fully ensures the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens.

The chairman noted that the approval and announcement of the results of the parliamentary and presidential elections are within the competence of the Constitutional Court.

“Azerbaijan has rich experience of election process, which has been improving year by year. In this regard, the opinions and suggestions of the OSCE election observation mission are of great significance to the election process,” Abdullayev said.

Jonker highlighted the activities and goals of the observation mission. She said that the election mission will attach special importance to cooperation with the Constitutional Court.

They also exchanged views on the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. Abdullayev expressed his confidence that the elections will be held in a fair, transparent and democratic manner in accordance with election legislation.
