4th Session of Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers kicks off in Baku

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has launched the fourth Session of the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers (ICYSM) in Baku.

The event, under the theme "Solidarity in Action for Youth Development", is co-organized by Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Youth and Sport, OIC, OIC Youth Forum and Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation.

Opening the conference, Turkish Minister of Youth and Sport Osman Askin Bak highlighted ICYSM`s activities during his country`s presidency. He said Azerbaijan takes over the organization`s presidency from Turkey for a two-year term.

Azerbaijan`s acting Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov provided an insight into Azerbaijan`s state youth policy. He said Azerbaijan will try to ensure landmark achievements in the fields of youth affairs and sport in the OIC region during its presidency of ICYSM.

President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation Turky bin Abdulmohsen Al-Alsheikh, Secretary General of OIC Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen and President of OIC Youth Forum Elshad Iskandarov congratulated Azerbaijan on assuming presidency of ICYSM.

Head of the department of youth policy and sport issues at the Azerbaijani President`s Administration Yusuf Mammadaliyev read out President Ilham Aliyev`s message of congratulations to the conference participants.

The ICYSM will discuss the status of youth in the OIC Member States, the activities of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation, the activities of the Sports Federation of the Islamic Solidarity Games and the Joint Action Plan for Youth. The ICYSM will also discuss the international program of the Islamic Youth Capital and the implementation of the resolutions related to youth and sports by Member States in coordination with the OIC General Secretariat and the OIC institutions working in the field of youth and sports. The ICYSM will also represent an opportunity for Member States and concerned institutions to share their experiences, study the challenges they face, and highlight success stories in dealing with youth issues and the importance that Member States and the OIC attach to youth and sports matters.
