Azerbaijani defense minister praises conscripts
Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov has appealed to the servicemen called up for compulsory military service and transferred to the reserve in accordance with the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated March 2, 2015, the Azerbaijani defense ministry said March 30.
The servicemen - privates and officers who have dedicated their lives to the glorious profession of defending the country, gained the honor and respect of the Azerbaijani people, the statement said.

The minister said that today Azerbaijani servicemen proudly defend their homeland and give a fitting rebuff to the Armenian invaders on the frontline.

"Our soldiers protect the homeland with dignity,” Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on the occasion of Novruz holiday on March 19. “We took full advantage ... Today the Azerbaijani army is among the most advanced armies in the world in terms of preparedness, technical equipment, weapons."

Hasanov said that the conscripts must know that a soldier`s life is fraught with difficulties.

Each soldier, following the orders of commanders with dignity, will confidently and successfully pass this way, gain the love and respect of people, the country`s leadership, the statement says.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
