NGOs adopt statement on 100th anniversary of 1918 Genocide of Azerbaijanis

The Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan has organized a trip of representatives of civil society to the country’s northern district of Guba.

NGO representatives first visited the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in the district, AzVision.az reports citing APA.

Later, NGO representatives visited the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex and were informed about the victims of the genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis.

The Guba Genocide Memorial Complex was established with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and opened on September 18, 2013. The complex contains images of different parts of Guba in the early 20th century, photos of construction works carried out here and the lifestyle of the locals. It is possible to get information in several languages from a special map on touch screen monitors about the genocide committed by Armenians in different regions in the past century.

The statement adopted on behalf of NGOs, calls on the international community to give a political assessment to the genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in March 1918, and impose tough sanctions on Armenia for the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.
