Pashinyan collects necessary number of signatures for nomination as Armenian PM

The leader of the opposition movement of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan has collected signatures of one third of the members of the Parliament necessary for nomination as the Prime Minister, the MP from the opposition bloc Yelq (Exit) Ararat Mirzoyan told reporters May 3, TASS reports.

"We were able to collect signatures of one third of the MPs. Pashinyan's candidacy will be officially nominated either today or tomorrow," Mirzoyan said.

Representative of Tsarukyan bloc, MP Naira Zohrabyan told journalists that 27 out of 31 MPs of her bloc have already signed the document.

On May 8, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will vote for a PM candidate who has the support of one third of MPs, head of RPA parliamentary faction Vahram Baghdasaryan declared May 2.

On May 1, the Parliament rejected the candidacy of opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan as the Prime Minister. Forty-five legislators voted for him, while he had to win 53 votes to be elected as PM. After that Pashinyan called on his supporters to launch large-scale actions of civil disobedience.
