Hailing the successful development of the relations with the EU, the head of state recalled with satisfaction his recent meetings in the European Commission and said that work on a new agreement began as a result of this visit.
President Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has already signed or adopted a document on strategic partnership with one third of the EU member states and assessed this as a good indicator of bilateral ties. He said that Azerbaijan and the EU cooperates in different areas, including politics, economics, security, culture and energy.
The EU is Azerbaijan’s largest trade partner, noted President Aliyev, pointing to Azerbaijan’s growing role in Europe’s energy security.
Touching upon the area of transport infrastructure, the head of state said that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which was commissioned last year, plays a role of important transport bridge between Asia and Europe, and that Azerbaijan has become a transport hub in Eurasia.
President Aliyev expressed confidence in further strengthening of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.
Sajjad Karim and members of the delegation of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee congratulates the head of state on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Karim expressed satisfaction with the fact that the cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan has been developing in a positive and constructive manner for two years.
In addition, the sides discussed issues related to the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh.
