Azerbaijan, Belarus to expand satellite cooperation

The meeting at the Azerbaijan’s Space Agency Azercosmos discussed issues of mutual usage of the first Azerbaijani satellite Azerspace-1 by the Belarusian side, and resources of the Belarusian satellite, which is expected to be launched this year end, by Azerbaijan.

Earlier, Belarusian satellite operator Belintersat expressed an interest in the resources of Azerspace-1 as an alternative control center for its satellite.

Satellite communication system of Belarus will be built on the basis of its own communications satellite "Belarus Sat-1/Belintersat-1", which will provide a wide range of telecommunications services.

A ground complex to manage the satellite is currently under construction, and the work will be completed until the launch.

The satellite will be launched by carrier rocket "Long March 3B". The satellite, produced by the China Great Wall Industry company, will be located at the orbital position 51.5 ° E.

Azerbaijan entered the space club with the launch of its first satellite Azerspace-1 in February 2013. By now, the country has three satellites, a telecommunication and two low orbit satellites, and it plans to launch a second telecommunication satellite in 2017.

At the event, Popkov said solid output has been reached in recent years and a number of the ICT forums were held. Another forum will be held in Baku in the framework of the Bakutel exhibition in December.

During the negotiations, it was underlined the possibility of establishing joint enterprises in various directions, as well as joint activity in information service, cosmic industry, electronic security, creation of techno parks, atom technologies and atom energy.

The ministers also exchanged views over issues of mutual interest in the field of communication and information technologies.
